National Dog Biscuit Day

Happy National Dog Biscuit Day!

I know many of you prefer to make treats for your dogs and boy oh boy do we have a good one for you!

My mom makes these for my dogs and they go absolutely bonkers. The best part ... they don't upset Faith's IBD, so we know they are good for dogs with sensitive stomachs and GI issues.

If you make these treats, post your photos to our FB page with the hashtag #poochetatreats #dogsdigitwi

Pooch-eta Treats

2 1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour (substitute Buckwheat Flour if grain-free)
1/2 cup Wheat Germ
1/2 cup Powdered Milk (substitute powdered goats milk from Honest Kitchen)
1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder (yes, dogs can have garlic in small quantities)
8 tbsp. Bacon or any cooked meat drippings
1 Egg, beaten
1 tsp. Brown Sugar (ingredient can be eliminated if you so choose)
2 tbsp. Beef or Chicken Broth (can substitute bone broth)
1/2 cup Ice Water
1/4 cup Crumbled Bacon (optional)
1/4 cup Shredded Cheddar or Mozzarella Cheese (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine flour, wheat germ, dry milk, garlic powder, and brown sugar.

Cut in bacon/meat drippings until mixed through.

Stir in beaten egg, broth, and any optional ingredients and mix until combined.

Slowly add water as needed to form mixture into a ball.

On a piece of wax paper, roll dough to a 1/2" thickness.

With your favorite dog themed or other cookie cutter, cut out the desired amount of treats.

Place cookies on a rimmed cookie sheet lined with foil (lightly sprayed with cooking oil) and bake for 25-30 minutes or until edges are golden brown.

Store in refrigerator or freezer to avoid spoiling.
